Striving to build an online business starts by finding a good niche in which you can buld authority and sell your products.
If you follow SmartStriving you know that I personally don’t like Affiliate Programs and that’s why I recommend any online business owner to sell their own products or, at least, to sell the products that they tested and are happily using.
Finding a good niche has never been so easy and, at the same time, confusing.
You can read many articles written by many self proclaimed experts in SEO that are suggesting you to buy thousands of dollars of SEO products only to find that particular niche that will make you money.
The truth is that you don’t need any of them.
You only need to know where and how you can find profitable niches.
And that’s what I am going to tell you in this article.
Finding a good niche on Amazon Bestsellers
Amazon is a goldmine for finding a good niche.
You start by searching the kind of product you want to sell on your website and you take a look at the results.
You can then see that there are items with a lot of reviews from users and others that are not so well known and purchased.
The items with a lot of reviews are a great place to start looking.
Let’s make an example.
Let’s go here and take a look at the department list on the left of the page.
You can see a lot of categories, right? Let’s choose Electronics for this example.
OK, that’s the page I currently see.
Obviously you could find something different in the bestsellers list, but that’s what I found at the moment of writing this.
Now, we can see that, for example the Echo Dot (3rd gen) has a lot of reviews and it also seems that the Roku Express HD has a lot of reviews too.
Since reviewing an Amazon product could potentially be unproductive because you can find a lot of competitors, let’s dive deep in analyzing Roku Express Streaming Media Player.
We click on it and check. We should ask 3 questions:
- What is this item?
- Are there any other item of a different brand that is cheaper or more performant?
- How many items that have the same purpose exists on Amazon?
After you find an answer for these 3 questions, you can doublecheck if people are actually searching those terms in Google.
In our example we found that Roku express is just like a Chromecast or an Amazon Fire stick.
So, I open up Google and begin to type Roku Express HD vs Chromecast.
And Autosuggest comes to the rescue:
People are actually searching for this term on Google!
What if you write a nice article of a comparison between the Roku and the Chromecast? Yes, you know the answer right?
You can repeat this process for any product of Amazon, not only for electronics. You can potentially make a site that compare products with affiliate links to Amazon.
Find the new trends in ebook categories of Amazon
Yep, Amazon is a goldmine, I already said that above.
You know what? You can also find niche ideas by going into the ebook section of Amazon.
How? Just follow these simple steps.
Go to Kindle Books and you’ll find “Amazon Charts” a new feature of Amazon.
You’ll get into a section that has the most read and the most sold books of both, fiction and non fiction.
Now, you’re going to see the trends of what people are reading most, so you also learn on what niche to pursue.
For example you could open a Facebook Group about that particular book or just opening up a blog and make summaries of the book.
Or you could explain the principles that are in the book and so on.
Discover a niche on Quora
Quora is a Questions and Answers site that covers all the topics of the world.
This site is very useful if you are looking for a niche, especially if you add all the categories you have an interest in and find what’s being asked most often.
If you find that a question always pops up and gets answered is because there’s a lot of interest in that particular thing.
You can use it to your advantage and creating a niche blog for that argument.

Anticipate new trends on Exploding Topics
Who created Exploding Topics is a genius.
Just take a look at their site to gain a sight of what’s becoming a trend and what people are searching in this exact moment.
You can also sign up for their newsletter in which you’ll receive the exploding topics directly on your email once per week.
Google Autocomplete Mastery
Yes, autocomplete is a source of niche ideas.
As you saw above with the Roku example, the Google Autocomplete can give you long tail keywords without having to pay a dime.
So, you have an idea and you want to see if it gets searched, just type the first two terms.
If it pops out, chances are that people are searching for that long term.
The only thing is that you don’t know how much it gets searched.
But you can double check on Google Trends to see if interest for that keyword is high or low.
Keyword research and long tail keywords
Keyword research is still the big thing because it delivers results.
If you know how and what to search you can get organic. It’s not an easy thing, I’m not saying that.
But searching for long tail keywords is essential if you want to discover new niches.
The tool I use is Ubersuggest, but you are free to use anything else.
Using Reddit to find a good niche
Finding a good niche on Reddit is pretty easy.
Reddit is just like a big forum with many subforums. And you can find subforums basically for everything.
Just search through the subreddits and you’ll find that there are many specific arguments you can use.
Finding a good niche is not a quick task, it can take months to find a profitable niche.
But when you find it and you create content for it, you can create a following and you can sell your products.
